Fountain Full Of Chocolate

by Alena Eis, News Editor

Indulging in chocolate raised £300 to support a charity against human trafficking last week.

Hosted by the Make Trade Fair Society at Café Couture on Tuesday, a massive 9.2 kg of Fairtrade chocolate was melted and run through a three-tiered chocolate fountain. The sold-out event saw 80 sweet-toothed students dipping anything from strawberries, bananas and oranges to bits of cookies and cake into chocolate, with some hardcore connoisseurs even drinking it pure.

Part of the “World’s Largest Fondue Party”, the event aimed to call attention to chocolate manufacturers using cocoa farmed by trafficked children. An estimated 12,000 children are trafficked every day to work on cocoa plantations on the Ivory Coast.
